Out of the corner of my eye I spot a coyote walking through the large puddle outside my office window. It has been very rainy here, with the hole in my bedroom ceiling drip-drip-dripping.
Flocked!
Santas.
Birdy decorated the silver tree with birds and other ornaments.

I made mashed potatoes-parsnips and cranberry dressing while Matt made stuffing, yams, and that green bean-mushroom stuff. I ate too much.
Buddy.
I hot-glued ornaments onto the wreath frame.

Wreath.
It rained a lot on Friday. I could not monitor a trench. The roof leaked again. In the backyard one of the huge cacti felt down. What a mess.

Fall has rapidly become winter. My citrus trees are getting ready to harvest. The Meyer lemon has about 50 lemons. I'll have to make lemon curd soon.

Decorations ensue. Birdy and I made felt ball garlands to hang from the picture rail. I set up the flocked tree and put my antique and reproduction antique ornaments on it.

Matt wanted to walk off calories by going to the top of Tumamoc Hill. I struggled up. He said I looked miserable. Accurate. I am out of shape. At least there were some pretty deer on the way down.
Fawn.
At home Buddy cat had an eye infection but has recovered nicely. He likes the antique blue chair by the door.

Cactastrophe!
I've been paying attention to the impeachment hearings. You can't believe how much I hate Republicans right now. I wish the Rapture would happen and just take them all away. ALL OF THEM. I had to unfriend someone on Facebook who apparently planned to vote for him again.

My kitchen walls are covered with transfer-printed plates, some dating back to the 1820s. I finished hanging them right before my All Souls Procession Cocktail Party.
Plates.
I set up my altar Sunday morning. Matt bought me some marigolds and I got flowers from Trader Joe's. On the altar I placed photos of my deceased pets.
Cookies.
Close-up.
The guests began to arrive and Jeffrey helped me do my sugar skull makeup. I then helped other people.
Caleb and Andy.
Homer and Matt.
At 5:30 everyone assembled outside. Each person took some flowers to hand out on the way.
Guests.
I had a nice time, hanging with friends and watching the procession.
Matt, Hoffman, David, Paul, Caleb, Robert, and Birdy.
The thousands of people strolled by, many carrying signs or small altars.
Procession.
It was a lovely event.

I've been working on a dig for the last few months. Today was the last day. I have been getting up very early (4:00 or 4:30 AM). We were starting at 6, but then had to move to 6:30 because it was too dark. Found some very interesting things. It amazes me that after doing archaeology for 33 years, you can still be surprised uncovering something that no one else has seen for a few thousand years.
Early morning.
There was a very friendly road runner that would come up and watch us work.

Matt and I went to see Jacob Tobia, the author of Sissy: A Coming of Gender Story. He was a very engaging speaker. I need to buy his book.
Food!
Last Saturday we did set up and ushered for Retro Game Show. Matt got us Cub Scout shirts, scarves, and sashes. We looked cute.

First living history of the season. It was the same day as Meet Yourself and so we didn't have as many people as we would have liked.

Birdy and I walked over to a flea market at the Mercado and I ended up buying two small paintings and a old wedding photograph for $43.

Afterward we went and had Vietnamese food.

My food was in a nest of friend noodles. It was quite good.

I'm getting things ready for my All Souls Procession Cocktail Party. The next three days I am giving tours, teaching people how to make paper flowers, and giving two talks.

An update.
Back in 2016 I posted about this painting, which I purchased back in the mid-1990s for $5. At that time I thought the artist was Am. Lyney.
Today, Olivier contacted me to let me know the artist is actually Amédée Lynen. He was a painter from Belgium, born in 1852 and lived until 1938. He painted, created artwork for books and posters. An image search on Google reveals he was pretty versatile, doing landscapes and scenes with people.

Version 56.
I'm another year wiser.
Four selfies and one not-selfie.
Occasionally past characters on my soap opera make return appearances. Recently Birdy, who lived in my guest house about 10 years ago, and his brother Mike, came to stay a while at my house. Birdy had been very nice and has been working on the overgrown plants around my house. It looks much nicer now. I helped a couple of days ago and got lots of tiny thorns in me. Ouch!
Birdy, Lead Character, and Mike on top of Sentinel Peak.
Matt had surgery to repair his broken collarbone. He is now the Bionic Man. I helped out as much as he wanted. One day to do something we wandered through the antique mall. We did not see anything we needed or wanted.
Special guest star Les, who last made an appearance 12 years ago.
I have been out at the Ruthrauff dig taking care of some sensitive things. It is very hot and muggy and by 8:30 I am usually soaked in sweat and have dirt all over me. Today I lay on my stomach to dig things. Not comfortable.
Sweaty.
My friends Elliot and Mark were replacing their newish Mission-style furniture with antique Mission-style furniture. I purchased their sofa and chair for $235. I had is for six days before Ruby decided to chew on their arms (despite being covered with a thick slip cover). I knew that it would eventually happen. She chews on everything, despite an abundance of toys and people paying attention to her. When I caught her doing it again, yelling ensued, She is still mad at me and generally avoids me. She is in love with Mike and wants him to hold her. There are times when I wonder why is she so naughty. Cats are so much easier.

Reflection.
Last weekend my college roommate Les was in town. We had a nice time catching up, eating Mexican food, and remembering sordid stories of the past. He really hasn't changed much, unlike me (I look completely different).

What has happened lately?
I've been sleeping on the fold out couch in the living room. It is falling apart and increasingly uncomfortable. Ruby sleeps on one side and Snowball on the other.
On August 20th, I attended the 244th anniversary of the founding of the Tucson Presidio.
Adventure time!
I've been out working on a dig. It is hot and moist. I am ready for the monsoon season to be over.

Yawn!
I went to New Mexico to attend a conference. Had the worst meal in a very long like- eggplant parm. It was just nasty.
Gross.
I stayed at an old fashioned motel, nothing special but it was cheap and the AC was lovely.
Classic Inn.
I was supposed to stay Saturday but I missed someone, so I headed home. I stopped at White Sands National Monument. The last time I was there was in 1989.
White Sands.
There is certainly a lot of white sand there!
More sand.
At home I was watering and looked down and there was a toad swimming in the outdoor animal/bird watering pot. I took it out and later it was in the front yard.
Toad.
I worked Retro Game Show. Chatty Cathy was very funny.

Fake cake.
Matt showed up and we had fun. We watched little over-heated children dancing. I sold tacos.
Matt and Homer.
This woman shows up in the same outfit every year. I like her hat.
Birthday lady.
We went down to Bisbee to visit with Ray and Robert, who are soon leaving for Spain. As we were leaving we stopped to visit the nasty enormous hole in the ground with the terribly polluted water in the bottom. This is what will happen if the motherfucking Canadians get to open the Rosemont Mine, which has been stopped at the moment by a judge.
Hole.
I took Robert shopping for clothes. It took a long time. Afterward I had a terse encounter at the Verizon store with the asshole employees. Matt calmed me down.
Robert.
I have a house guest for while, one of my former tenants. I took him to Rosa's for lunch. The motherfucking douchebag Republicans have an office next door.
Probably an office filled with baby rapers.
Monsoon season is taking place. Several times it has poured at my house.
Drama.
On Saturday morning Matt fell off his bike and broke some bones. It was pretty awful at the hospital but he is doing alright, although it is a pain (literally).
He was well enough to come to pool volleyball. I played in a mediocre fashion until the last game, when I really laid it on.
Volleyball
I made a pineapple upsidedown cake. Forgot to take a photo of it.
Matt and Roger.

Bobcat outside my window at work.
Ruby was happy to see Uncle Matt.
