Geez, I'm going to be 40 in six weeks. I remember when I was kid I used to think "Maybe I will live to be 13." When my father was 40 he had five kids, was a truck driver, and was never home (at least that is what I remember). My life has not followed his at all- although I do have five cats that view me as their daddy. I live in an old house in a Mexican neighborhood, have been a vegetarian for 20 years, I'm queer, educated, and curious- all things that my father wouldn't or didn't like or understand. He's been dead for almost seven years, dropped onto the bedroom floor while I was at a gay bar in Athens, Greece. My mother decided that I wasn't to know- my father had hated funerals and so they had a little party instead. And my roommate got to tell me at the airport two weeks later. I had spoken to him right before I went to Greece "The doctor gave me three months worth of pills, guess I will be living that long." Sometimes things don't happen the way you expect them to.
